“Refugee Wave (Flüchtlingswelle)” is a short documentary about Gulghutai, who is a Muslim Afghan woman, refugee, mother, and activist who fights for those who are displaced.
Following the saying “the personal is political”, the film presents a window into Gulghutai’s thoughts and experiences since arriving in Germany in 2014, and explores how multiple aspects of her identity intersect to impact the way she experiences displacement, discrimination, and integration as she fights for the rights of refugees.
The film was produced as part of Loyola Marymount University’s documentary film study abroad program, in partnership with the Akademie für Internationale Bildung (AIB). It was selected by a jury of European industry professionals appointed by the AIB to premiere at a movie theatre in Bonn, Germany.
